a new voice in jazz.....a real jazz composer...a very thoughtful improviser
Andy Hamilton, Jazz Journal

I recently reviewed Liam Noble’s 2015 solo piano album “A Room Somewhere” and both of these offerings from Edis compare well with this critically acclaimed recording. On this evidence the names of Liam Noble and Paul Edis should routinely be spoken of in the same breath.

Thank you for accompanying Greg so well last night. He has telephoned me this morning and told me that yours was one of the best trios he has had backing him in UK this summer. He hopes to be able to play with you again.

Their debut album 'There Will Be Time' was voted 3rd best album of 2012 (Alyn Shipton, Jazzwise). With a front line of Trumpet, Tenor Sax and Trombone, the sound is reminiscent of the great Art Blakey ensemble, but if this is music that has its roots in the 1960s, its blossoms are absolutely of today!

‘An enjoyable debut CD by a pianist who has some compositional flair and a tidy north East of England-based band that plays imaginatively within a coolly expressive post-bop context'
Selwyn Harris, Jazzwise ***

Tracks from 'There Will Be Time' have since been played on Radio 3 and in the US. In October 2013 the band were in the studio again to record their second album, due for release in 2014.

Watson, Walker, Edis

This trio featuring Saxophonist Lewis Watson and drummer Rob Walker first performed a one-off set as part of the ‘Jazzathon’ at the Lit and Phil in 2011 to great acclaim, and indeed it was later voted ‘best gig of the year’ by local jazz blog Bebop Spoken Here. All three musicians were keen to continue collaborating and to explore the many possibilities this new ‘baseless-trio’. With an ever expanding portfolio of compositions, an abundance of technique, innate sensitivity and interaction, the trio draw upon a wealth of experience and influences to perform original and moving music with improvisation and expression at its heart.
